Saturday Strawberry Hunting

I wake up on a Saturday morning with the sweet sweet taste of freedom in my mouth, ready for what the weekend will bring. It’s that freedom and rule-less feeling, that the weekend offers, which is truly irreplaceable. Don’t get me wrong, work’s good- but you just don’t wake up with that same feeling come Monday morning at 6.30am.

In Brisbane however, the possibilities can be limiting, but with it’s sudden increase in Cafe’s for brunching and markets for munching, you’ll hardly ever be short of things to do come the weekend.
Some of my top locations on a Saturday are:

Kelvin Grove Urban Village Markets
King George Square in the city for all sorts of random events (Sunday too)
The Dark Chocolatier on Adelaide Street for your chocolate fix
Afternoon BBQ’s at a friends place
Paddington or West End for chills
Strawberry picking at  the Sunshine Coast (May to October)

La Ruche for a cocktail
Friday’s Riverside– drinks with a view
Palace Centro Cinemas for a movie date
La Via Italian Restaurant Southbank for a feast (they had me at ‘gluten free pizzas’)
Drive-in movies at Yatla –  I haven’t actually been in years, but I still like the idea.

As for Sunday, it’s a whole different vibe.
I find Sunday’s always are so unproductive for me, even though I try to deny it to myself and think I’ll wake up feeling fresh after a night out, I usually waking up hungover feeling like death, not ready for the sunlight or to face another human being.
So my top things to do/or that I want to do, but never get to are…

Eagle Farm Markets – gluten free crepes and a rosti to cure the hangover
Rock Climbing in West End or the Kangaroo Point Cliffs- this one requires you to be fresh faced
Mt Glorious for a day trip
Maleny– for wine and cheese tasting
Samford at The Flying Nun Cafe for breakfast
Picnics at New Farm Park
Merthyr Bowls with a group of friends- for river views and a good lunch and bowls deal
MTV music clips on Foxtel – for the home bodies
The numerous festivals on in Brisbane – see here for details

Spaghetti House Trattoria in West End- authentic Italian with all staff as Italian as salami.
Pho Hoang Gia in Fortitude Valley for dinner – ridiculously good vietnamese, and so well priced.
Afternoon Sunday sesh and the Comedy Club at the Powerhouse New Farm
Dumplings and drinks at the Brunswick Social

What are your favourite things to do on the weekend? Send your suggestions my way!
